Aldi’s pop-up gazebo is the best way to escape the summer heat – Bethan Shufflebotham

I’m a redhead, so you can imagine how I feel about the current heat. So we shielded the garden from the sun to make sure me, my fair-skinned dad, and the dog could go outside safely.
We were lucky to have a corner lot, but it also meant there was quite a bit of room to try some shade, although I liked our Dunelm Bistro set – the umbrellas didn’t provide enough protection for the entire family and guests.
But on the weekends, we found the £79.99 Gardenline pop-up gazebo at Aldi, which turned our garden into a cool, shady lounge that the whole family could enjoy.
I love anything that “pops up” in the summer – pop up beach tents, pop up ice cream, etc. and I know Aldi will totally cover us with this pop up gazebo.
We’ve been shopping for the past week or so but anything that looks right costs well over £100 or doesn’t have great reviews. However, Aldi products have not yet disappointed us, so seeing other happy customers leave rave reviews for garden products, we are sure of it.
Joy S wrote: “Purchased two weeks ago, easy to assemble, excellent quality – all we need now is to enjoy the sunshine.”
Angi-irv added: “Bought this pop-up pergola to replace an old pergola with poles. It is first class, durable, private, of good quality and delivered earlier than advertised. I highly recommend this gazebo.”
There is almost nothing in the box. There are frames and covers for gazebos, carrying bags, tent pegs, ground pegs, cords and boards. While two people are recommended for assembly, three or four will definitely make it faster, but it can be put together in five minutes even the first time.
Aldi says: “This Gardenline Anthracite Pop Up with an easy-to-assemble folding design is just what your garden needs this summer. This gazebo is perfect for fine evenings. This pergola is equipped with a roof frame and aluminum legs, as well as ventilation.”
Even without the sides, the three meter cubic design creates a lot of shade, but you can add them on the sunlit sides for extra protection. Although there is an arched window on one side, it still provides more privacy and makes your garden more secure – especially good if you have small children or naturally curious neighbors.
The arbor is waterproof, as I found out when my American bulldog Frank dived into his paddling pool, which is in the shade around the perimeter, which simply bounced off the fabric. Plus, the fabric has 80+ UV protection so you’re ready for any weather in the UK, says Aldi.
You can make a pergola at three different heights, and it’s pretty easy to move around the garden with a few people, so you can move it to a better spot during the day.
Perfect for a hideout for garden parties or BBQ guests, as well as being placed in a kiddie pool or organizing a picnic. We filled the gazebo with blankets and pillows for a cool and comfortable place to relax, and added cool pillows for the dog. We also like to pull it out on our patio above the rocking chairs and unlit fire pits, but this part of the garden gets dark early anyway, so we always move it further into the middle.
The design is simple yet effective, easy to pick up and put away, and if you’re trying to escape this week’s heat, sitting in the garden will be nicer and more comfortable.
